Craving a gooey brownie? Try sinking your teeth into one of these ultra-chocolatey homemade brownie truffles. A base of dates, cacao powder, and nuts make these bite-sized balls the perfect snack to grab before a workout or enjoy as a dessert.

Makes: 20

Prepare: 10-15 minutes plus setting time

Storage: Up to 5 days in an airtight container in the fridge or 1 month in the freezer.

Ingredients:

  • 100g walnuts (or can use almonds, cashews or pecans)
  • 100g pitted Medjool dates
  • 30g unsweetened cocoa powder or raw cacao powder
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • cocoa powder, raw cacao powder and/or shredded coconut, for dusting

1. Place the nuts in a food processor and process until crumbly but still with a bit of texture. Add the dates, cocoa or cacao powder, sea salt, and vanilla extract, and blend again.

2. With slightly wet hands, roll the mixture into 2.5cm balls, or smaller if liked. If the mixture is too sticky to handle, place in the freezer for about 15-20 minutes until firm enough to roll.

3. Lightly cover each truffle with your choice of dusting ingredient and place them on a baking sheet. Chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour before serving.

Tip: Roll your decadent brownie truffles in hemp seeds, shredded coconut or cacao nibs for extra flavour and a nutritional boost.
