Chromotherapy
Chromotherapy or Colour therapy harnesses the energies of light and the colour spectrum to assist in restoring the emotional balance which has created physical disharmony. Colour therapy is not new to the 20thcentury. This amazing form of healing was applied in the Healing Temples of light and colour at Eliopoulosin Egypt, in ancient Greece, China and India.
After ancient civilizations, chromotherapy was forgotten and often frowned upon, until the eighteenth century, when scientists and philosophers were interested in it again, and in the twentieth century colours began to be used again for therapeutic purposes.
Light therapy is an umbrella term that encompasses phototherapy, ultraviolet-light therapy, infrared therapy, and chromotherapy. Chromotherapy specifically refers to the visible light spectrum of colour and the healing benefits that colors have on the body and mind. Chromotherapy instruments release wavelengths and frequencies that emit particular colours of light to induce a healing reaction in the body. Chromotherapy specifically combines the benefits of colour therapy with light therapy.
Chromotherapy is a narrow band in the cosmic electromagnetic energy spectrum, known to humankind as the visible colour spectrum. It is composed of reds, greens, blues and their combined derivatives, producing the perceivable colours that fall between the ultraviolet and the infrared ranges of energy or vibrations. These visual colours with their unique wavelength and oscillations, when combined with a light source and selectively applied to impaired organs or life systems, provide the necessary healing energy required by the body.
Nowadays some of the colors that are used are as follow:
Green
It is the color of balance and harmony. Effective in treating physical fatigue and injuries, produces cellular regeneration, is used in the treatment of malignant tumours, to increase the defences of the immune system, heart disease, the circulatory system problems, headaches, neuralgia, sleep disorders, emotional instability,
Green links with and stimulates the heart chakra. Green affects blood pressure and all conditions of the heart. It has both an energizing effect and a moderating or soothing effect.
Blue
Calming. Stimulates the parasympathetic system, reduces blood pressure and calms both breathing and heart-rate. It has anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxing effects. Fights both physical and mental tension and is used to assist in relaxation.
Blue links with and stimulates the throat chakra. The throat chakra is often referenced as the "power center" and "the greatest center in the body" because it is the primary center of expression and communication, through speech.
Purple
Healing properties: transformation. This colour heals melancholy, hysteria, delusions and alcohol addiction and brings spiritual insights and renewal. It slows down an over-active heart; stimulate the spleen and the white blood cells (immunity). Brings sleep. Soothes mental and emotional stress. Decreases sensitivity to pain. Helps in detoxification.
Leonardo da Vinci proclaimed that you can increase the power of meditation ten-fold by meditating under the gentle rays of Violet, as found in Church windows.
Red
Is used to energise and stimulate. Affects the heart by increasing pulse rate, and the muscles by increasing their tension. Influences vitality, and increases body temperature. Can be used to develop excitement and sensuality.
Red links with and stimulates the root chakra, at the base of the spine, causing the adrenal glands to release adrenalin. This results in greater strength. Red causes hemoglobin to multiply, thus increasing energy and raising body temperature. It is excellent for anemia and blood-related conditions. It loosens, opens up clogs, releases stiffness and constrictions. It is excellent for areas that have become stiffened or constricted.
Yellow
Increases neuromuscular tone. Purifies blood, helps digestion, and has a cleansing effect. Strongly stimulates happiness, brings on a sense of security, as well as a strong feeling of well-being.
Yellow links with and stimulates the solar plexus, or psychic center. It can be used for psychic burnout or other psychic-related conditions or ailments. Activates and cheers up depressed and melancholic people. Gives lust for life.
Magenta
Healing properties: Strengthens contact with your life purpose. Stimulates adrenaline and heart activity.
White
Used for regeneration. Also, provides energy and balances the chronobiological rhythm, by stimulating the production of serotonin, a substance which regulates both sleep and the nervous system. Rebalances the psychophysical and hormonal systems in people who suffer from seasonal depression.
Healing properties: White is the perfect colour; for it is all colours, in perfect balance and harmony. It is the color of the awakened Spirit; the light of perfection; the light of the Cosmic Consciousness.
Light affects both the physical and etheric bodies. Colours generate electrical impulses and magnetic currents or fields of energy that are prime activators of the biochemical and hormonal processes in the human body, the stimulants or sedatives necessary to balance the entire system and its organs.
Scientists, who have studied colour and light extensively, recognize that colours bring about emotional reactions in individuals. Our reactions and attitudes to colours differ from person to person, which makes an interesting study in itself. Our attraction to certain colours may very well signal areas where the body energies are imbalanced. Understanding why certain colours affect us positively while others bring about negative feelings helps us a lot in our healing journeys. If you have observed some colours might motivate positive feeling while uplifting your mood while some might simply put you off. Wearing the wrong colour can make you feel out of sorts with yourself. Colours are certain wavelengths of electro-magnetic energy - Chi energy seen through our eyes. The colour we see is the part of the visible spectrum that is reflected back by a certain object.
Chromotherapy used in conjunction with infrared sauna treatments becomes even more effective as the infrared spectrum of light encourages the body to absorb the full spectrum of color emitted through chromotherapy instruments.
Colour therapy or chromotherapy is one of the most ancient healing therapies that have been used in several parts of the world. When used right, it can help harness the energy of the sunlight to boost natural healing ability of the body, not only to cure diseases but also prevent them.
