Apitherapy Wellbeing: Royal Jelly

03/10/2019

Royal jelly is a bee product widely used in traditional Oriental medicine. It is secreted from the mandibular and hypopharyngeal glands of worker honeybees (Apis mellifera) and used to feed young larvae (from one to three days old), the queen bee larva, and the adult queen bee. RJ is involved in the sexual determination of the queen, besides its longevity.

In its composition, RJ contains proteins (approximately 50% of its dry mass), free amino acids, vitamins, sugars, fatty acids, sterols, and minerals. Therefore, it is used worldwide as a functional food.

RJ also presents several pharmacological properties, such as antibacterial, antifungal, antihypertensive, and estrogenic activities. Furthermore, RJ can play a significant role against colitis , induces mineralization in osteoblasts, improves erythropoiesis, glucose tolerance, and mental health, and may have antiatherogenic activity and be beneficial in controlling diabetes outcomes . Due to its pharmacological properties, RJ is used to supplement the treatment of several diseases, in many countries.

Royal jelly is widely claimed to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress. In multiple test-tube and animal studies, specific amino acids, fatty acids and phenolic compounds found in royal jelly appear to have potent antioxidanteffects .

Royal Jelly boosts Immune System and Counters Allergic Reactions

According to a 2001 study published in the journal International Immunopharmacology, royal jelly can help boost the immune system.
Contains Beneficial Probiotics

Royal honey appears to have a valuable effect as a source of bifidobacteria, which is the beneficial bacteria that supports the health of the gastrointestinal tract, making it a useful probiotic.
Improves Collagen Levels for Great Skin

A study conducted by the Department of East-West Medical Science at Kyung Hee University in Korea reports that royal jelly regulates skin photoaging following exposure to ultraviolet-B radiation. The anti-aging effects on the skin were assessed by determining the collagen content and epidermal thickness of skin tissue.

The level of procollagen type I protein was increased in the subjects that were fed with a dietary supplement containing 1 percent royal jelly extract. These findings indicate that royal jelly may protect against skin aging by enhancing collagen production.

Also, it's known for:

Immune system support
Antibiotic effects
Kidney, pancreatic and liver disease
support Healthy skin
Energy and vitality
Healing wounds
Fighting cancer
Fertility Hormone support
Digestive support
Bone support
Diabetic support

Freeze-dried royal jelly goes through a process of dehydration, also known as lyophilizing, to remove the water by exposing it to dry freezing air. This process does not include heat or chemicals. Lyophilized royal jelly maintains all the nutrients of the fresh product and allows for storage at room temperature and a longer shelf life.
